Adobe Town or, better yet, the Adobe Town Study Area (Bureau of Land Management) can be found in Sweetwater County, Wyoming and is on the southwest portion of the Red Desert (I believe). I've heard about it several times over the years and decided to pay a visit to this remote location - and, it was worth it! I enjoyed an absolutely breathtaking sunset - all alone and happy.

I was fortunate to recently fly down the Lower Wisconsin Riverway in a small aircraft. The lay of the land and river are just amazing, along with the fall colors.

We had the great pleasure of being a guest of Alessandro Vanucci of Angkor Travel Photography (https://www.angkortravelphotography.com). Alessandro spent three days showing us various beautiful, magical sights within Angkor Wat Archeological Park. Angkor Wat is overwhelming, stunning, and beautiful. It's difficult to fathom the efforts that went into creating these many different temples (wats) and the incredible details that still exist after sitting in the tropical elements for hundreds and hundreds of years.

Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon, formed by the erosional forces of flowing water through the sandstone, along Antelope Creek on the Navajo Indian Reservation just east of Page, Arizona. It's a truly beautiful and awe-inspiring site to behold. Take your time and breathe it in...

Every few years, it's cold enough that the "ice caves" form along the shore of Lake Superior, NW of Bayfield, Wisconsin. The winter of 2013/2014 was one such winter and people flocked from far and wide to see these beautiful and rare natural wonders!

While I've been to Arches National Park and enjoyed most of the typical tourist walks/hikes, this time I got to really enjoy the Fiery Furnace and Delicate Arch. For a wonderful, interesting, moderate and fun hike, try the Fiery Furnace - and come prepared!

The old German city of Augsburg is an absolutely beautiful place to stroll and take in the history and ambiance.

Images from a family backpacking trip to Buckskin Gulch/Paria River Canyon in the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, on the borders of Utah and Arizona. First few images were taken atop Muley Point, a mesa in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in southern Utah near Mexican Hat, and then just prior to the start of the backpacking (near Lees Ferry, AZ). Most images by Asta Mulholland and a few by Muir Mulholland. Images before #205 are Buckskin Gulch; images after #205 are Paria River Canyon. Water temp was about 2-3 degrees C. Daytime temps were generally pleasant (except for the frozen sleet on the last day).

Canyon X is a relatively "new" slot canyon to the east of Page, Arizona, USA. While the slot canyon has been there for thousands of years, the Navajo Nation has only recently opened it for tourists. It's within the same drainage area as Antelope Canyon. It's a beautiful area that's much less crowded than Antelope Canyon!

I spent a fascinating day in Carlsbad Caverns in January, 2024. It was such a spectacular experience! I'd walk a few feet and take a photograph, and then walk a few more feet to take another photograph. I went through a battery this day, which I've never done except for shooting weddings! I hope that you'll get the chance to visit.

Coalmine Canyon is an area of clay erosion, hoodoos and spectacular views located in central Arizona on the Navajo and Hopi Nation lands. It's a beautiful, remote, quiet area of wonderful landscapes.

I was fortunate to be able to travel to Southwest Colorado for about a week the summer of 2023. I had a great time hiking, shooting and backpacking and hope that you'll also enjoy my photographs from that trip!

Comb Ridge in southeast Utah is a very special place in my world. First, it's an amazing geological formation - this long "wave" of sandstone that extends nearly 100 miles from NE Arizona into SE Utah. Second, it was inhabited by hundreds of Ancient Ones - Native peoples from hundreds of years ago who eeked out an existence in a harsh environment. It's an amazing place that I've visited several times and to which I'll return again.

Costa Rica is an easy and inviting land of beauty. There are so many possibilities here for fun, adventure and relaxation - mountains, oceans, rainforests, waterfalls, rivers, wildlife... Just about everything except snow...

The Netherlands is a beautiful country and particularly noted for its windmills. I was fortunate to be able to have a rather intimate encounter with the Delphine Windmill near Abcoude, Utrecht, NL, as well as visit the Kinderdijk Windmills World Heritage Site.

Every year, the Experimental Aircraft Association holds it's Airventure Fly-In at Whitman Field in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. If you're a fan of everything aviation, particularly for the small, DIY or personal pilot, then I hope that you'll get a chance to get to Oshkosh during the one week in summer that this place is buzzing!

Glacier National Park is an incredibly beautiful and inspiring place. I could never be bored there (well, as long as I wasn't covered with twenty feet of snow). In many ways, Glacier is the opposite of the Grand Canyon - blue & green instead of oranges & yellows; upward instead of downward; and, wet instead of dry. I hope that you'll have the chance to explore Glacier if you haven't already!

Near to Golden, British Columbia is a beautiful, remote (but accessible) mountain lake. It's not a difficult hike, nor is it a walk in the park - but it's beautiful when you get to the end! It would be a wonderful place for a picnic or, better yet, an overnight backpacking trip!

In May, 2008, I had a wonderful opportunity to raft the Colorado River through Grand Canyon National Park with some great photographers. I hope that you'll enjoy this gallery too, and, better yet, make the voyage yourself!

I was again fortunate to spend several days enjoying the immense beauty of the Grand Canyon in November, 2024. I can't get enough of this place! This was a trip of lows and highs. The low was that I backpacked to the Colorado River on a difficult trail. Only when I got down there and made camp did I realize that I'd forgotten my sleeping bag. :( The high was that after I got out, I had one of the more spectacular sunsets at the South Rim that I"ve ever encountered! ENJOY!

For quite some time, I've wanted to explore Grand Gulch and its many Anasazi ruins and plethora of rock art. I finally had the opportunity in November 2022 and the weather was nearly perfect!

Horseshoe Bend is one of those simply spectacular places in the world where you can view a beautiful oxbox carved into Arizona's sandstones!

Hyde's Mill is a rustic mill set along Mill Creek in rural Iowa County, Wisconsin, between Barneveld and Arena. It's a pleasant little place to which I'll return in the autumn.

Along the main road between Banff National Park and Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada, there's a stretch of mountains and glaciers that's truly spectacular and even "accessible." Along this part of the route there are amazing - and sobering - views. Sobering, in the sense that these beautiful glaciers are melting all too quickly as we warm our world. You had better see them before they're gone!

We were fortunate to spend a day and night visiting and exploring Joshua Tree National Park after a wet California winter - a desert superbloom!

Kauri trees are one of the largest trees found in New Zealand. There are relatively few left, and even fewer of the very largest Kauri trees. These magnificent trees can mostly be found on the western coast of Northland, the northernmost region in New Zealand.

Kin Bineola is an ancient and abandoned Chacoan village site that is a part of the Chaco Culture National Historic Park in New Mexico. Elsewhere on my website you can find images from Chaco Canyon - a great place to visit, explore and learn about the ancient cultures that inhabited the American Southwest hundreds of years ago.

In November, 2019, I was extremely fortunate to visit the beautiful country of Laos, in Southeast Asia. We visited temples and monuments in Vientiane, took a balloon ride and explored caves in Vang Vieng, and explored the wondrous sights of Luang Prabang - what a wonderful city!!!

Lithuania is a beautiful country, full of the old & new! I hope that you'll have a chance to explore it and get to know it like I have!

Lithuania has become my second home. It's my wife's birthplace and I'm very fortunate to be able to frequently visit this beautiful and historic country. Enjoy!

The Burke Brise Soleil of the Quadracci Pavilion of the Milwaukee Art Museum is ligt up with special festive colors. Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. This portion of the museum was designed by world-renowned architect Santiage Calatrava to give the appearance of a ship at sail, sitting on the Lake Michigan shoreline.

I spent several frigid days visiting, exploring and photographing along the North Shore of Lake Superior. It was beautiful and quiet!

Paha Sapa is a sacred location for Plains Indians/Native Americans on the edge of the Blackhills. It is preserved by the State of South Dakota as Bear Butte State Park, near Sturgis, SD.

Palo Duro State Park near Canyon, Texas is an inspiring park. Someone referred to it as a miniature Grand Canyon. I'm not certain that I agree with that, but it is an interesting place and worthy of your visit!

I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Peru and Machu Picchu in October, 2014. It's an amazing and beautiful country, and I'd gladly go back in a heart beat. I hope that you'll have the opportunity to visit the Land of the Incas in your life time - a bucket list trip!

Pewits Nest in the autumn. Pewits Nest is a Wisconsin State Natural Area just west of Baraboo, Wisconsin. It's a very picturesque and popular spot for a fall walk, and very peaceful and serene.

Pewit's Nest is an intimate State Natural Area near Baraboo, Wisconsin. It is essentially Wisconsin's only (?) slot canyon, situated along Skillet Creek, in the Baraboo Hills. These photographs are from late fall, taken under a grey, leaden sky, creating beautiful, low contrast photographs.

Pompey's Pillar is a sandstone bluff along the Yellowstone River in Montana. For ages, it served as a site where Native Americans would carve art. However, it is most famous as the only site where proof of the Lewis & Clark Expedition of 1803-1806 can be found. Captain William Clark carved his name here on July 25th, 1806.

I've spent a great deal of time on prairies in the central US. I love the solitude, the wind and the wide open spaces. But, one thing that I've wanted to do for many years is to witness and photograph a prairie burn. In some ways, it's not terribly exciting. But, in other ways, you're there at the moment of rebirth - a phoenix moment.

I've long wanted to visit Riga, particularly since it's so close to Lithuania. It's a beautiful, interesting city to explore, with so many interesting buildings. Good food, great history!!

Without Sacajawea, the Lewis & Clark Expedition likely would not have succeeded. For the Expedition, she was a guide and a diplomat. She is buried in a small cemetery in the community of Fort Washakie, Wyoming. Enjoy!

Secret Falls is probably the most beautiful waterfall in Wisconsin. It's also a relatively "remote" waterfall even though its close to civilization. The only legal way to access the waterfall is to walk through Honey Creek in Borns Hollow. This waterfall is located near Leland, Sauk County, Wisconsin, in the beautiful Baraboo Hills.

In remote, southwest Wyoming there is an area that's similar to South Dakota's Badlands National Park, but completely off the beaten trail. I'm referring to the Red Desert area of Sweetwater County, Wyoming. It's remote, quiet, peaceful - and astoundingly beautiful, particularly at sunrise and sunset. My first trip to this area was in August, 2016, to an area known as Adobe Town. This time, I was a few miles south of Adobe Town at a location generally known as Skull Rim.

We spent about two weeks in South Africa visiting the Timbavati Game Reserve (near Kruger National Park), as well as Cape Town, the Garden Route and the Panorama Route. We most enjoyed the wildlife in Timbavati!

There are some truly remarkable places in the deserts of the American Southwest. One of those places is South Coyote Buttes, which seems to be the lesser sibling of North Coyote Buttes/The Wave, but certainly beautiful in its own right.

After our November 2022 adventure in Grand Gulch (a different gallery!) we spent a morning driving through Valley of the Gods, near Mexican Hat, Utah, on a windy, blustery morning. The following morning, we visited Canyon de Chelly National Monument near Chinle, Arizona - a wonderful ending to a wonderful trip.

On the edge of Dunedin, New Zealand, there's an old pier at St. Clair Beach that provides a very simple and beautiful setting for photographs.

St. John's is a beautiful, beautiful place to visit, relax and enjoy - warmth in the water and the people. Swimming, snorkeling, relaxing, sleeping, and great food!

When I was a child, I enjoyed visiting the Strategic Air Command open-air museum that was on Offut Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska. The aircraft from that museum can now be seen at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum near Ashland, Nebraska. If you're into aviation, it's a nice way to spend a few hours and maybe learn something along the way!

I'm entranced by the Southwestern United States. I love the wide open spaces, the various colors of the rocks, the quiet and solitude, and the ability to get lost - when you want. These photographs were taken on a trip to southern Utah and northern Arizona in November 2011 - I hope that you enjoy as much as I did!

One of the more extremely popular locations in northern Arizona is The Wave, a part of North Coyote Buttes and the Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness. If you go there, bring plenty of water. It's not a long hike, but it's not short, either!

I really enjoy visiting western Nebraska. I lived near Ogallala for a summer many years ago. I enjoy the peace and quiet, the solitude and the wide-open prairie. The windmills in this gallery first came to my attention maybe forty to fifty years ago, likely in a National Geographic article. Enjoy!

"Buried" within the Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness, there is a very remote location with some of the most beautiful rock formations and folds that you've ever seen. No, it's not at all easy to get there, but the trip is certainly worth the considerable effort!

Images from various locations in Wyoming from a 2019 journey. 1) The infamous Hole in the Wall site where outlaws hid out from authorities with their purloined cattle and other goods. 2) Lost Twin Lakes in the Cloud Peak Wilderness of the Bighorn Mountains. 3) Wild horses in Sweetwater County. 4) Abandoned buildings at a former ranch.

In 2016, I took my first backpacking trip to the Wind River Range and the Cirque of the Towers - and I was hooked and couldn't wait to go back. My return trip was in the summer of 2019 on a slightly different route, but the goal was to get to the Cirque. This trip, I camped about a thousand feet above the valley on the north side, with the hope of enjoying a spectacular sunrise. I felt very fortunate that I was able to experience the sunrise there. But, the evening before, a storm blew through just as I made camp, so I hunkered down for about an hour. When I finally stuck my head out of my tent, I enjoyed the most awesome and dramatic displays of mountain weather and angling sun of my life. I hope you enjoy these few images, too.

I was fortunate to be able to spend three days of solitude in the Wind River Range, Shoshone National Forest, Wyoming on a backpacking trip in August 2016. I didn't backpack that far, but had an absolutely glorious sunrise at Cirque of the Towers that made it all worth it!!

The Wisconsin State Capitol Building is a wonderful and historic piece of architecture and construction. I used to love to eat lunch in it and just drink in all of the beautiful little details. Enjoy!

Yellowstone National Park is a fascinating place to visit and explore. The variety of geothermal features is amazing! Yellowstone contains ~60% of the world's geothermal features, so if you can't find it here, you probably won't find it anywhere else! Get out there and enjoy it!
